Lazy day

Maggy’s gooey goodness!

Yesterday we celebrated Tim’s birthday. Lots of love and food and marshmallows. A fun and exciting drive through the narrow roads. Including a bit of an adventure returning the tires of an oncoming vehicle to the road, as he squeezed a little too close to the ditch to let us by.

Today is Sunday. I know that there are things to clean up. Gardens to uncover. Seeds that need planting. But honestly it’s lunchtime and I have not officially gotten out of bed.

I have been working on school work, sending emails, filling in applications, sipping coffee, browsing social media, handing out my unsolicited opinion (oops lol), and writing this blog.

I guess it hasn’t really been a lazy day, as I take another sip of my third cup of cold coffee. I really thought I would get to drink this one hot!

It’s nice to have a day of rest, a gift from the Lord, to slowdown and remember the blessings of the week. To exam what went well, to contemplate where we need to improve, to let our bodies catch up to our minds, and look ahead towards our next week.

Whatever you do today, may the Lord bless you and keep you, and may you take time to count the blessings, mourn the losses, and stratigize the week ahead!

“It’ll be fine.”

When you know from experience the way of things, but you do something anyway, there is always a cost.

The cost from ignoring this time was annoyance , extra work, and a jungle moved back into the house.

Tomatoes tucked in for the night

Our beautiful heat, left last night leaving me with plants to bring inside, the gardens to tuck in, and disappointment of maybe not getting an early taste of goodness. I guess fear as well because if it froze hard enough I could have lost all my hard work.

I knew that it would get cold again. I repeated it in my mind, not to get in a hurry to plant tenders till June. “But” it has been hot not just warm, it must be going to continue. NOT!

Last night the temperature dipped to 1°C, tonight is supposed to be almost as low.

Maybe I should wrap myself up in a warm blanket (like my tender plants), sip hot tea, and get lost in a good book. Hard to move when you feel frozen.

Spice of life, because everyone needs a little heat!

Baby herb garden

Finding the balance between spicy and calm in life leaves me feeling bipolar. Just ask my best friend, when I can find the joy groove there is no stopping me. It’s always best to just hold on and enjoy the ride.

The flip side of me is the solitude I desire but don’t feel comfortable in for very long. If I don’t find that solitude ( which can happen even in a crowded room) I wither like a flower in the sun.

This is my favorite of my gardens. Although just babies now it’s full of basils, parsley, sage, chives, jalapeños, even a ghost pepper, some tomatoes, celery, and a few other herbs.

It’s my favourite because it adds flavour and depth to a simple meal or a banquet for friends new and old.

When it fills in it’s a mishmash of colour and texture.

It’s on a southeast wall and gets all day sun so it’s HOT, which is another reason I love this little taste adventure.

Even the simple can be spicy and solitude when you pour your heart into it!

Frost damage?!?!

I fear stepping out this morning!

I ignored the weather man the temperature dipped to 1°C last night, they predicted 5°.

I got home, I was tired and I did not bring in my plants.

What will I find? Do I dare look?

Often I don’t plant out my vulnerable plants till the middle of June. It isn’t unheard of to get frost or even freak light snow.

If the air isn’t warm enough the plants just wait to grow anyway.

Well here it goes….

So blessed, looks like they all survived.

Next time, maybe I will listen to the weather man after.

For the love of quick sale racks and garden fresh herbs

I love quick sale at the local produce isle. You never know what you will find.

This week’s treasure, papaya. Inspiring tropical smoothies for breakfast yesterday, and a papaya, nut salad with homemade peanut, basil dressing for lunch today.

A little sprinkle of chili pepper, a grind of fresh pepper and the taste buds are tantalize.

Not to mention gluten-free and healthy to boot!

I wonder what I will discover next time around.
